3-member inquiry committee constituted to probe Vaishno Devi landslide tragedy

SRINAGAR, AUGUST 29 (STC): Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha, who also serves as the Chairman of the Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine Board, has constituted a three-member inquiry committee to investigate the recent landslide on the Vaishno Devi pilgrimage route in Reasi district, which killed 36 pilgrims and injured 20 others.
An official order issued in this regard states that the panel will be headed by the Additional Chief Secretary, Department of Jal Shakti, with the Divisional Commissioner Jammu and the Inspector General of Police Jammu as members.
The committee has been tasked with examining the causes of the incident, identifying any lapses, reviewing the rescue and relief operations, and recommending standard operating procedures (SOPs) to prevent such tragedies in the future.
The panel will submit its report within two weeks to the Lieutenant Governor,
Officials said the move aims to ensure accountability and strengthen safety measures along the pilgrimage track to safeguard devotees.
