SRINAGAR, AUGUST 09 (STC): Two Army jawans and three terrorists have been killed in the ongoing encounter in Akhal forest of south Kashmir’s Kulgam district, the Army said on Saturday.
The gunfight began on August 1 and has now entered its ninth day, making it one of the longest anti-terror operations in the Valley in recent years. Two other soldiers were injured during the operation. They were evacuated to a hospital for treatment but could not survive and succumbed to injuries today.
“Chinar Corps honours the supreme sacrifice of L/Nk Pritpal Singh and Sep Harminder Singh in the line of duty. Their courage will forever inspire us,” the Army posted on X, expressing condolences to the bereaved families.
DGP Nalin Prabhath, who is personally monitoring the operation, said the delay is due to the difficult terrain and dense forest cover. “We will track them down,” he said.
It’s pertinent to mention that security forces launched the operation after receiving intelligence inputs about the presence of five terrorists, including at least three foreign militants trained in jungle warfare. Drones, helicopters, and para commandos have been deployed to eliminate the remaining militants.
