SRINAGAR, APRIL 03 (STC): Citing administrative reforms and welfare measures, Head of the All India Imam Organization, Umer Ahmed Ilyasi, on Friday praised the leadership of the Jammu and Kashmir Waqf Board for making it a “success story”.
Ilyasi said the functioning of the Board under its chairperson Syed Darakhshan Andrabi reflects “positive changes” in Jammu and Kashmir in recent years.
He said the region has witnessed a return to normalcy and hospitality following the Pahalgam incident, adding that he observed a welcoming environment for visitors during his visit.
Ilyasi also referred to developments after the abrogation of Article 370 in 2019 and said the changes were in line with the Centre’s broader development plans for the Union Territory.
Highlighting reforms, Dr. Darakshan Andrabi said the Waqf Board has streamlined the remuneration system for Imams and Khateebs by converting monthly payments into regular salaries and increasing them.
She said the move was aimed at recognising the role of religious leaders not only in leading prayers but also in promoting social values.
Ilyasi appreciated the measures taken by the Board and termed them reform-oriented, saying they have contributed to improving institutional functioning.
Notably, Ilyasi was addressing a press conference here. Several Imams and Khateebs associated with the Board were present on the occasion, along with Executive Magistrate Ishtiyaq Mohiuddin.
