SRINAGAR, JULY 15 (STC)
: Jammu and Kashmir Apni Party has criticised Chief Minister Omar Abdullah for the way he forced himself on Monday to reach the Martyrs’ Graveyard in downtown Srinagar.
Senior vice-president of Apni Party, Ghulam Hassan Mir, said the manner in which Chief Minister Omar Abdullah visited the martyrs’ graveyard on Monday to pay tribute to the 1931 martyrs was not appropriate. He should have coordinated the visit with the administration.
“The way he went was not right. When you target the opposition while aligning with the government, it raises questions. You want to play the role of the opposition, but you’re not doing it effectively,” Mir said.
He added that for the past nine months, the BJP has played a role in halting the National Conference, which was the main opposition. “They seem to have allies somewhere in between,” he said.
The Apni Party senior Vice President while commenting on the party’s expanding activities said, “When the National Conference neglected public issues, no one else came forward. Our party believes we must step up and become the voice of the people.”
On BJP’s protest in Jammu and its stand on Urdu, Mir said, “There’s no issue with any subject. Urdu is the language of official records in Revenue. If knowledge of Urdu is essential there, then it’s a valid requirement.”
He also said, “In Kashmir and Jammu, there’s a perception that both sides blame each other for misgovernance, but it is the responsibility of political leaders to rise above divisions and make their presence felt through sincere efforts.”
