:
Tarique Rahman’s Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) along with its alliance partners is emerging victorious in the Bangladesh elections. It is leading in at least 212 of the 299 seats that went to the polls on February 12.
Media in Bangladesh are reporting a landslide victory for the BNP – though their estimates vary. The reports state that the party and its allies are projected to win around two-thirds of the seats. If the trends hold in official results, Tarique Rahman, the BNP chairman, will become the Prime Minister of Bangladesh.
The Jamaat-e-Islami-led alliance has won 70 constituencies, according to unofficial results being declared by TV channels today. The reports said that the final figures will be released by the Election Commission later in the day.
Meanwhile, as reported across media platforms, Tarique Rahman, the chairman of Bangladesh Nationalist Party, who returned to the country from a self-imposed exile in London, has said that his party will not hold a victory rally as he appears poised for a historic victory Rahman won two seats — Dhaka-17 and Bogura-6 constituencies making a striking political debut in Bangladesh’s history.
Notably, in the speech delivered after returning from London, he struck an inclusive tone calling for inter-communal and inter-ethnic harmony in Bangladesh.
