SRINAGAR, DECEMBER 21 (STC): Supporting locally manufactured goods is essential for empowering artisans, weavers, and small entrepreneurs across Kashmir. Such initiatives not only preserve Kashmir’s rich cultural and artisanal heritage but also create sustainable livelihood opportunities for local youth.
Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Member of Parliament in the Rajya Sabha and BJP Jammu and Kashmir President Sat Sharma, stated this at the Swadeshi Mela held here today.
He urged people to actively choose locally made products and contribute to building an Atmanirbhar Bharat.
Notably, the MP while symbolising the commitment to self-reliance and promotion of local craftsmanship, presented a Kashmir-made Tricolour to Altaf Thakur, BJP J&K spokesperson on the occasion. The symbolic presentation highlighted the spirit of “Local for Vocal”, a nationwide campaign aimed at encouraging the use of indigenous products and strengthening grassroots economies.
Altaf Thakur expressed gratitude for the gesture and said the Swadeshi Mela provides an important platform for showcasing traditional Kashmiri products, craftsmanship, and entrepreneurial talent. He added that events like these help connect artisans directly with consumers while reinforcing pride in local production.
