JAMMU, AUGUST 05 (STC)
: The Jammu and Kashmir unit of the BJP marking the sixth anniversary of the abrogation of Articles 370 and 35A on Tuesday has declared the move as a landmark step towards constitutional unity, equal rights, and dignity for every citizen and called it ‘real independence day’.
From urban centres to remote border villages, BJP activists hoisted the tricolour, organised Tiranga Yatras, and held patriotic programmes, commemorating the historic August 5, 2019 decision by the Narendra Modi-led government.
Addressing a gathering in Akhnoor, J&K BJP president Sat Sharma said the abrogation was a collective achievement that uplifted neglected and oppressed communities. “It ended decades of discrimination and gave every resident their due constitutional rights,” he stated.
BJP General Secretary Ashok Koul termed it a “new dawn” for J&K. “The welfare schemes are now reaching the last person in the queue without discrimination,” he said, adding that development and governance have gained momentum since the change.
BJP leaders fanned out across the region — including Udhampur, Doda, Kishtwar, Rajouri, Kathua, Samba, Reasi, Ramban, Poonch, and districts in the Kashmir Valley — reaffirming the party’s commitment to building a “new and empowered Jammu & Kashmir.”
BJP Secretary Pawan Sharma described August 5 as the day of “real independence” for J&K. “With the removal of 370 and 35A, true democracy was established. Marginalised communities like the Gujjars-Bakarwals, West Pakistani refugees, Valmiki Samaj, and women finally received their long-denied rights,” he said.
He credited Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah for their “visionary and courageous” decision that ensured true integration and equality.
At the BJP headquarters in Trikuta Nagar, the SC Morcha held an enthusiastic celebration. Morcha president Dharminder Kumar said the move had brought J&K closer to the rest of India, offering “a brighter, more secure future.”
BJP vice president Rekha Mahajan, speaking at the event, highlighted the transformative impact of the abrogation, calling it the beginning of a “new era of peace, progress, and prosperity” for the region.(STC)
