NEW DELHI, JULY 25 (STC)
: Cancer care received a shot in the arm when the Government approved the establishment of
Day Care Cancer Centres (DCCCs) in six districts of Jammu and Kashmir including Jammu, Shopian, Reasi, Samba, Ramban and Kishtwar.
Over 200 Day Care Cancer Centres (DCCCs) have been approved across the country for the financial year 2025-26.
According to the data, Ladakh will have two centres, further boosting cancer care facilities in the Union Territory.
Union Minister of State for Health and Family Welfare Prataprao Jadhav informed the Lok Sabha in a written reply that these centres will primarily function in district hospitals, depending on the availability of space and logistics. “However, proposals from States for setting them up in other government health facilities will also be considered,” Jadhav said adding that each DCCC will cost up to ₹1.49 crore based on local needs and infrastructure gaps.
Districts with a high cancer burden were prioritized based on Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) cancer registry data.
