SRINAGAR, MARCH 06 (STC): CPI (M) leader and MLA Kulgam M Y Tarigami speaking on recent developments in the Assembly, said that despite the government’s claim that Article 370 is no longer in effect, it continues to be a point of discussion at the highest levels. “If Article 370 was over, then why does the government keep bringing it up? It is still haunting those in power,” he said.
Calling reorganising J&K disrespectful to the people, Tarigami said, “The state was downgraded and divided without consulting us. This is against the sentiments of the people of Jammu and Kashmir,” he remarked.
Raising the issue of governance in the current system, he said, “The Chief Minister does not even have the power to transfer a soldier or a patwari. What kind of governance is this?” he asked.
Urging collective action to restore dignity and rights he said, “People of Jammu and Kashmir want to live together with respect and rightful authority. We are not begging; we are demanding what is rightfully ours.”
