SRINAGAR, NOVEMBER 25 (STC)
: Member of Parliament Aga Ruhullah Mehdi has been advised by the Jammu & Kashmir Deputy Chief Minister Surinder Kumar Choudhary to channel his concerns through parliamentary discussions rather than street demonstrations.
The Deputy CM suggested that as an elected representative, the MP has established avenues to raise issues, including addressing the Chief Minister directly or taking matters to the Prime Minister. “It is expected of an MP to follow protocol. Raising matters on streets to gain attention does not reflect well on the position he holds,” Choudhary added.
Choudhary’s remarks came amid ongoing debates over electricity tariffs in the region, where some local leaders have sought to mobilize public sentiment through protests. The Deputy CM reiterated that governance must rely on structured discussions and official communication channels rather than public demonstrations.
He emphasized that there is no plan to increase electricity tariffs, countering claims made by some political leaders. “The Chief Minister has already clarified that the government has no proposal for any tariff hike,” he said.
Meanwhile, the Dy CM urged the media to exercise discretion in amplifying statements or actions aimed merely at drawing public attention.
“Media coverage should not contribute to creating unnecessary hype around individuals trying to seek the spotlight,” he remarked.
