Developing nanotechnology imperative to solve critical challenges for better living: LG Sinha

SRINAGAR, SEPTEMBER 07 (STC): Jammu and Kashmir, particularly the Himalayan region, has been witnessing severe climatic changes in recent years, which makes it imperative to develop nano-based early warning systems for floods, soil erosion, and other natural calamities, said Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha on Sunday while inaugurating the five-day International Conference on Nanotechnology for Better Living here at Gandhi Bhawan, University of Kashmir. The conference brought together leading scientists, researchers, and industry experts from across the globe.
The LG said, “Nanotechnology is no longer confined to laboratories. It has entered almost every industry and is being used to solve critical challenges. In our region, where the threat of climate-induced disasters is high, nano-based systems can play a vital role in resilience and preparedness.”
Highlighting government initiatives, Sinha said research and development in nanotechnology had received a major boost under the Prime Minister’s leadership, enabling Indian scientists and institutions to push the boundaries of innovation.
He urged private players to invest in developing defense equipment using nanotechnology, pointing to its demonstrated success during Operation Sindoor.
On the healthcare front, the Lt Governor called for greater focus on nanotechnology-driven diagnosis and treatment, which he said had the potential to revolutionize patient care and improve outcomes. “We must channel this technology for the betterment of humanity,” he added.
Meanwhile, the conference aims to serve as a platform for exchange of ideas, collaborations, and showcasing of recent advancements in nanoscience. Participants will deliberate on applications in clean energy, water solutions, defense, agriculture, and medicine.
