Dr. Farooq Abdullah optimistic about friendly relations with neighbours

SRINAGAR, JANUARY 01 (STC): Former Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Dr Farooq Abdullah today expressed optimism to have friendly relations with the neighbours. “God willing we will have friendly relations with the neighbours and come out of the difficulties,” he said.
In conversation with media, Dr Farooq Abdullah welcomed recent diplomatic gestures and was “pleased” that India’s External Affairs Minister attended the last rites of former Bangladesh Prime Minister Khaleda Zia. “They are our old friends, and we want to take this friendship much further,” he said, underlining the importance of strong regional ties.
Meanwhile, Dr. Farooq Abdullah referring to issues faced by Kashmir’s traditional industries, including shawl dealers, Abdullah said hardships were part of destiny but cautioned against divisive and extremist thinking. He warned that
attempts were being made to impose authoritarian ideologies. He said, “They want the Hitler system to start here. Hitler disappeared and shot himself. God willing, Nazism ended there, and a time will come when it will end here as well.”
