SRINAGAR, AUGUST 12 (STC): Jammu and Kashmir police officer, DySP Adil Mushtaq, a popular cop among youth, has been reinstated into service after he was exonerated of all charges by a departmental inquiry.
According to the case study, the inquiry was initiated against him following a CID report in September 2023 alleging that the officer had abused his position to aid militancy-related accused. He was subsequently arrested in FIR No. 149/2023 registered at Police Station Nowgam under various sections of the Prevention of Corruption Act and IPC, and placed under suspension on September 21, 2023.
A departmental inquiry was ordered in December 2024, with DIG Crime Abdul Qayoom appointed as Inquiry Officer. The officer denied the charges, and after examination of evidence, the Inquiry Officer recommended that all charges be dropped, said an official report.
Meanwhile, the CID, in its response, confirmed that both the criminal investigation and the departmental inquiry could not establish any wrongdoing due to lack of material evidence. The case registered in 2023 had already ended in discharge by a competent court on technical grounds.
After examining the findings and CID’s comments, the Competent Authority accepted the Inquiry Officer’s report, ordered closure of the inquiry, and reinstated DySP Adil Mushtaq with immediate effect, reads the report.
