SRINAGAR, DECEMBER 13 (STC)
: Following safety concerns over eggs, bakery products that extensively use eggs as a key ingredient, have come under the scanner, triggering unease among consumers across Jammu and Kashmir.

If eggs circulating in the market are unsafe, bakery items prepared using the same raw material could also pose potential health risks. Cakes, pastries, biscuits, and other commonly consumed bakery products are largely dependent on eggs, making the issue a matter of public concern, said a report quoting locals.
Food safety experts and concerned citizens have stressed that regulatory authorities have a critical responsibility to intervene promptly. They have called for comprehensive inspections of bakeries and systematic testing of egg-based bakery products to determine whether they comply with established food safety standards.

Consumers have urged food safety departments to verify sourcing, storage conditions, and handling of eggs used in commercial food preparation.
Experts have underlined that regular sampling and laboratory testing of bakery products are essential to rule out contamination and protect public health. They added that visible enforcement measures would help restore consumer confidence and discourage negligent practices.
