Former bureaucrat Mohd Aslam Laigroo Passes Away

SRINAGAR, JANUARY 02 (STC): A distinguished bureaucrat, Mohd Aslam Laigroo, who served the erstwhile Jammu and Kashmir state in various key administrative capacities passed away today morning at Manipal Hospital, Dwarka, New Delhi, following a cardiac arrest.
During his service career he held positions such as Srinagar Municipal Corporation (SMC) Commissioner, Vice Chairman of Srinagar Development Authority (SDA), Managing Director of the State Financial Corporation and Director Estates. He was hailed for his
dedication, integrity and professionalism, earning widespread respect across administrative circles.
Remarkably, an accomplished mountaineer and sportsman, Laigroo was part of a historic joint Kashmir–American expedition in 1971, which successfully summited Katsal (Tulian) Peak in Pahalgam. For his exceptional mountaineering skills, he was fondly known as the “Mountain Goat.” He was also a renowned skier and brought international laurels to the region by winning a medal in France.
Family sources said his mortal remains will be brought from New Delhi late this afternoon. Nimaz-e-Janazah will be offered after Magrib prayers at his residence, Baghi Haider, Lane No. 1, Hyderpora Bypass. He will be laid to rest at Goripora graveyard near Jamia Masjid.
