SRINAGAR, NOVEMBER 29 (STC): The government has assured thorough inquiry into the incident involving demolition of residential house of a Jammu-based journalist by Jammu Development Authority (JDA).
Deputy Chief Minister Surinder Choudhary stated this on Saturday and further said that the Jammu Development Authority (JDA) must clarify who authorised the act.
“Any officer involved in the demolition carried out at the residence of journalist Arfaz Daing in Jammu will be held accountable,” he said.
Choudhary stressed that the CM has never supported actions motivated by personal vendetta. He said the administration works strictly within the framework of the Constitution and values the role of the press.
Deputy CM, who visited the journalist’s home, said, “JDA must explain on whose orders this step was taken.”
Choudhary asserted that Arfaz Daing had every right to express his opinions and publish his work. “Silencing journalists strikes at the very foundation of democracy,” he said, warning that any misuse of power to intimidate people will not be tolerated.
