HM Amit Shah returns to Delhi, likely to brief PM Modi on flood situation in Jammu

SRINAGAR, SEPTEMBER 02 (STC)
: Concluding his visit to Jammu, Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Monday evening returned to Delhi. He is expected to brief the Prime Minister Narendra Modi about the situation in Jammu’s flood-hit areas. Notably, the Home Minister reviewed the flood-hit areas in Jammu, met victims, and assured them of the Centre’s full support in relief and rehabilitation efforts.
During his visit, Shah personally interacted with affected families in the worst-hit areas of Jammu and directed the administration to ensure speedy disbursal of compensation and rehabilitation assistance.
He also chaired a high-level meeting in Jammu to review the overall security situation in the Union Territory.
“The Prime Minister and the Government of India stand shoulder-to-shoulder with the people of Jammu and Kashmir in this hour of crisis. Every possible support — will be extended to bring normalcy back to people’s lives,” Shah assured while addressing locals in flood-ravaged areas.
Meanwhile, as per reports, the Home Minister is likely to brief Prime Minister Narendra Modi on the situation.
PM Modi, who returned to Delhi after concluding his visits to China and Japan, has been closely monitoring developments in J&K since the onset of the disaster.
Since August 14, Jammu and Kashmir has witnessed widespread devastation due to cloudbursts, flash floods, and landslides. More than 130 lives have been lost, and 33 people remain missing. Among the deceased are 34 Vaishno Devi pilgrims who tragically died in a massive landslide near the shrine route on August 26.
A senior official told media that the Home Minister’s ground visit shows the urgency and seriousness with which the Central government is addressing this disaster.
