Iltija Mufti shows concern over Kulgam attack, youth arrests

SRINAGAR, FEBRUARY 05 (STC ): People’s Democratic Party (PDP) leader Iltija Mufti has expressed her concerns about the Kulgam attack and asked the government to step up security measures and offer more than just words.
“They need to provide compensation, but more importantly, a thorough investigation into this heinous act. We cannot allow a situation where a family is left to fend for itself after such a tragedy,” she said in a statement quoted in media reports today.
She showed concern over “the arbitrary arrests of local youth, especially in districts like Kulgam, Budgam, and Ganderbal, where many young men are being detained by authorities under suspicion.”
“What’s happening here is not justice. Instead of a fair investigation, people are being treated as suspects without reason. Innocent youth are being rounded up simply because they are from these areas.
Calling National Conference a significant political force in J&K, Iltija Mufti specifically criticized the party for not taking a stand on the issue and asked its leadership to engage with the local communities and work toward addressing the widespread fear and uncertainty that has gripped the youth.
“Why isn’t the NC speaking out? The youth voted for them, but now they are being punished for something they didn’t do. It’s time for real action, not just empty words,” she said.
Iltija made a visit to the slain ex-soldier’s family, offering her condolences and pledging her support in the ongoing fight for justice.(STC)
