LONDON, JULY 24 (STC):
A Comprehensive Economic and Trade Agreement (CETA) between India and the United Kingdom was signed today. Prime Minister Narendra Modi called it as a “historic day” in bilateral relations and a roadmap for shared prosperity.
Speaking after talks with UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer, Modi hailed the signing of the agreement. He said, “After years of hard work, this agreement is not just about economic partnership but a plan for shared growth.”
The deal is expected to give Indian textiles, footwear, gems and jewellery, seafood, engineering goods, and agricultural produce better access to the UK market.
Modi said the agreement will particularly benefit India’s youth, farmers, fishermen, and MSME sector, creating new opportunities in the British market.
Indian consumers and industries will also gain access to affordable UK products such as medical devices and aerospace equipment. The agreement includes consensus on the Double Contribution Convention, aimed at boosting technology and finance sectors, while improving ease of doing business and attracting investments.
“This partnership between two democratic nations and major global economies will drive investment, create jobs, and strengthen global stability and prosperity,” Modi said.
