J&K Police advisory cautions journalists against publishing unconfirmed news or speculative content

SRINAGAR, MARCH 03 (STC): In a strong advisory, the Jammu & Kashmir Police has urged media professionals and the general public to uphold the principles of responsible journalism. It emphasized accuracy and verification paramount in sensitive situations like the one prevailing today.
The authorities have stressed the importance of verifying information before reporting and cautioned against publishing unconfirmed news or speculative content. “Spread of rumours and misinformation can create panic, disturb public order, and potentially endanger lives,” reads the advisory with “Responsible Journalism Matters” and “Verify Before You Report” as the key messages.
The Police calls upon journalists to avoid unverified claims and stick strictly to factual reporting.
