J&K Police arrests elder sister in sensational murder of minor girl in Ganderbal

SRINAGAR, AUGUST 19 (STC): Jammu and Kashmir Police in central Kashmir’s Ganderbal district have solved the sensational murder case of a 14-year-old girl whose body was recovered from Sehpora area on Sunday. The investigators have identified the victim’s elder sister as the prime accused, revealed a report.
The report, officially confirmed, said the girl’s body was found lying in fields near Batsar Road, barely 300 meters from her residence in Sehpora. Initial reports had suggested that unknown persons travelling in a car may have been involved.
However, the Investigating Officer (IO) of this case pieced together technical evidence and forensic findings, leading to the conclusion that the victim’s elder sister was behind the killing, said the report.
The sibling, confessed to hitting her with a stick after an argument, causing her death, they said.
A police officer confirmed to the media that the elder sister, who had accompanied the victim, was arrested after her involvement in the crime was established. “During sustained questioning and corroboration with forensic evidence, it was found that the sister herself was responsible for the murder,” the officer told media.
Police said the accused attempted to mislead the family and investigators by claiming that unknown men had tried to abduct the sisters.
“A case under relevant sections of law has been registered, and the accused sister is in custody. The investigation has revealed motive as well, and further details will be shared once the probe is complete,” the officer added.
Meanwhile, SSP Ganderbal Khalil Poswal held a press conference and gave complete details of the incident resulting in the death of the minor gurl. He said that the 22-year-old girl ( Sister of deceased) has been arrested in connection with the incident. He said soon after the incident, police registered a case and started investigations. During the Investigation, he said, role of deceased’s sister came to fore and it was found she killed the minor.
The SSP further stated that an altercation between two sisters escalated, resulting in the elder sister hitting the younger one with a rod, which unfortunately led to her death.
Notably, the Chief Minister Omar Abdullah had termed the murder has heinous and expressed his anguish. He demanded stern punishment for those guilty of murdering the minor.
