J&K Police during regular patrolling discovers ancient sculpture in Gulmarg

: A centuries-old stone sculpture discovered on the outskirts of Gulmarg during a routine patrol by Police Station Gulmarg has been taken in possession by the Jammu and Kashmir police to ensure its preservation.
Reports quoting officials said that the ancient artefact, believed to depict either Lord Vishnu or Lord Surya, was found during regular patrolling. Recognizing its historical importance, the police immediately secured the sculpture and informed the concerned authorities for its proper preservation.
Subsequently, the artefact was formally handed over to a team from the Directorate of Archives, Archaeology & Museums, Jammu & Kashmir, led by Dr Javed Ahmad Mattoo, for further documentation and conservation. The entire process was carried out under the supervision of SHO Gulmarg, Inspector Dr Haroon Bashir.
Authorities said the sculpture, crafted in fine stone, reflects the region’s rich cultural and archaeological heritage. The prompt action by the Police ensured that the artefact was protected from any possible damage or misuse.
