SRINAGAR, AUGUST 24 (STC): Jammu and Kashmir Peoples Conference Chief Sajad Lone has urged authorities to act quickly to preserve the unique model and academic success FAT schools. He appealed to the government not to convert FAT schools into regular government-run institutions, emphasizing that their strength lies in non-governmental management.
He warned that without timely management reforms, the schools’ future and thousands of students’ careers could be at risk.
“FAT schools have produced numerous professionals—including doctors, engineers, and lawyers—who are contributing in Kashmir and beyond,” Sajad Lone said in a statement issued to media. He described these schools as institutions that combined the affordability of government schools with the academic standards typically seen in private schools, all while operating outside the government system.
Referring to the Education Minister’s statement that the current arrangement is temporary, Lone urged the government to form managing committees in a time-bound manner. He recommended that these committees include educationists and respected members of society to ensure effective governance.
He stressed that maintaining the schools’ academic excellence must be a top priority moving forward.
