Kashmiri Pandit body demands Implementation of the 1997 Immovable Property Distress Sale Act

Jammu, January 09 (STC): Kashmir Pandit Conference (KPC) in a press statement has urged the government for urgent Implementation of the 1997 Immovable Property Distress Sale Act to “address the injustice faced by displaced Kashmiri pandits.”
The president of KPC, Kundan Kashmiri, in a communication to Administrative Secretary and Financial Commissioner of Revenue, Shaleen Kabra,
says that “despite consistent pleas from the displaced Kashmiri Pandit community, justice remains elusive, and our rightful properties continue to be vulnerable due to distress sales under coercion and duress.”
“The Act of 1997 was enacted to safeguard the properties of the displaced community, yet its implementation has remained incomplete, leading to continued injustice and exploitation,” he said in the statement.
He has urged the government to take immediate and effective measures to ensure the provisions of the 1997 Act are implemented in both letter and spirit without any further delay. ( STC)
