: Mirwaiz Umar Farooq has strongly criticized the Jammu and Kashmir Assembly Speaker for disallowing a discussion on the Waqf bill.
Taking to X platform, Mirwaiz expressed outrage over what he termed as the Speaker “hiding behind technicalities” to avoid addressing an issue of deep concern to the Muslim community of the region.
In a sharp comparison, Mirwaiz noted that Tamil Nadu—despite having only a 6% Muslim population—managed to pass a strong anti-Waqf resolution in its Assembly.
I“It is ridiculous and condemnable,” he wrote, questioning why the Muslim-majority J&K Assembly cannot even bring the issue to the floor.
He further reminded the Speaker that the overwhelming mandate given to the ruling party was based on promises to defend the rights and interests of the people, especially those being “trampled upon since August 2019.”
Mirwaiz questioned the Speaker’s “meek capitulation” and urged him to take a firm stand on issues vital to the community. (STC)
