Mirwaiz Umar Farooq may get security cover again, sources

SRINAGAR, FEBRUARY 07 (STC): Taking note of online threats to Mirwaiz Umar Farooq after his recent visit to Delhi, the Jammu and Kashmir Police is contemplating to restore his security cover, says a media report quoting official sources.
As already reported, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq engaged himself in New Delhi in discussions with the Joint Parliamentary Committee (JPC) on the Waqf (Amendment) Bill 2024 and held meeting with prominent civil society members and religious leaders including AIMUM Chief Asad ud Din Owasi, Jamiat Ulama-i-Hind president Maulana Mehmood Madni, Delhi Jama Masjid Shahi Imam Syed Ahmad Bukhari, Ameer of the Tablighi Jamaat Maulana Saad Kandhalvi, and Mufti Mukarram Ahmed of the Fatehpuri Masjid. The most significant engagement of Mirwaiz in New Delhi was his meeting with a delegation of migrant Kashmiri Pandits.

Reportedly, following online threats directed at him after these interactions, the police have decided to provide the security cover again to Mirwaiz. Notably, in 2019, the government had withdrawn his security. (STC)
