SRINAGAR, JANUARY 21 (STC): The inauguration of the redeveloped Amira Kadal pedestrian bridge yesterday by Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha has been objected by the National Conference MLA from Banihal, Sajjad Shaheen.
According to the reports, the National Conference MLA has said the Lieutenant Governor’s decision to inaugurate a civic infrastructure project amounted to an avoidable overlap with the domain of elected institutions.
It’s worth mentioning that NC MLA from the Amira Kadal constituency, Ahsan Pardesi, was present at the inauguration alongside the Lieutenant Governor.
Taking to social media, he posted his argument that routine civic works such as pedestrian bridges fall squarely within the responsibility of the elected government and local administration.
“Frequent ceremonial involvement of a constitutional office in such projects risks eroding democratic decentralisation and diluting long-established governance conventions,” Shaheen said and maintained that visible political authority over civic functions should rest with representatives chosen through elections.
