PULWAMA, FEBRUARY 16 (STC): Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) MLA Waheed ur Rehman Parra in a statement has criticised the Power Development Department (PDD) for sending an inflated electricity bill to a resident of Naira Check village in Pulwama district. He has demanded immediate government intervention in the matter.
One Abdul Ahad Wani, a low-income consumer, was sent a bill of Rs 10,669 for January. The billed amount is said to be disproportionate to his usage.
The PDP legislator Parra shared a copy of the bill on X and wrote, “Power Department in J&K has turned into an extortion machine, forcing even the poorest to pay exorbitant bills while inflation crushes them. EWS and below poverty line families are being bled dry while the government watches in silence”.
He took a dig at the PDD for functioning as a commercial entity, serving capitalist interest. “The department has shifted its focus from being a public service department,” he said. (STC)
