PM Modi’s gift to Jill Biden tops US First Family’s gift list for 2023

US President Joe Biden and his family were given tens of thousands of dollars in gifts from foreign leaders in 2023.

January 03 (STC): An Associated Press (AP) report has revealed that United States First Lady Jill Biden, received the most expensive diamond gift from the Prime Minister Narendra Modi in 2023. The gift valued Rs.17 lakh and topped the list of most expensive gifts to the first family in that year.
US President Joe Biden and his family were given tens of thousands of dollars in gifts from foreign leaders in 2023, and the single-most expensive one was the more than Rs.17 lakh ($20,000) diamond from Indian PM Modi, AP report said.
Notably, the 7.5-carat diamond from the PM Modi was easily the most costly gift presented to any member of the first family in 2023. The first lady also received a brooch valued at USD 14,063 from the Ukrainian ambassador to the United States and a bracelet, brooch and photograph album worth USD 4,510 from the president and first lady of Egypt, according to a media report quoting an annual accounting published by the State Department.
It’s worth mentioning that the USD 20,000 diamond was retained for official use in the White House East Wing, according to a State Department document, while the other gifts to the president and first lady were sent to the archives. (STC)
