NEW DELHI, DECEMBER 28 (STC)
: The May-2025 military action against terrorists under “Operation Sindoor” reflected India’s clear and firm approach to national security that the country would not hesitate to act when its sovereignty is challenged, said Prime Minister Narendra Modi today. He was addressing the 129th episode of his monthly radio programme Mann Ki Baat. He said India remains steadfast on national security after the Pahalgam terror attack in Jammu and Kashmir in April 22 earlier this year.
He said the operation drew widespread public support and demonstrated the resolve of a confident India.
“The world saw that today’s India does not compromise on security,” he said, adding that the operation drew widespread public support across the country.
The Prime Minister also highlighted the rediscovery of an ancient Buddhist complex in north Kashmir’s Baramulla district as an example of India’s rich cultural legacy, while also recalling Operation Sindoor as a defining moment of national security in 2025.
Modi said the unearthing of a forgotten Buddhist site in Jehanpora village of Baramulla reflected the depth of Jammu and Kashmir’s historical identity and its civilisational links dating back nearly 2,000 years.
The Prime Minister narrated how unusually shaped mounds in the area initially went unnoticed for years before attracting the attention of archaeologists.
Scientific surveys, including drone-based mapping, later revealed that the mounds were remnants of a large, human-made structure. He said the discovery gained further clarity after an old, blurred photograph preserved in a museum in France was traced to the same site, showing three Buddhist stupas.
He said the findings underscored Kashmir’s long association with Buddhism and added that such discoveries reconnect people with the region’s ancient past.
Modi also reflected on key developments of 2025, describing the year as one that strengthened India’s collective confidence.
The Prime Minister also spoke about achievements in sports, science and culture during the year.
He referred to India’s successes in international cricket tournaments, milestones achieved by para-athletes, and advances in space science, including an Indian astronaut’s mission to the International Space Station.
He also referred to efforts related to environmental conservation, including wildlife protection initiatives.
Touching upon economic self-reliance, he said public enthusiasm for domestically manufactured products continued to grow, reflecting confidence in indigenous industry.
The Prime Minister also acknowledged that parts of the country faced natural disasters during the year and expressed solidarity with affected communities.
