BARAMULLA, AUGUST 31 (STC): Jammu and Kashmir Police in Baramulla have booked three persons including a lady lawyer and her husband in a fake IED (improvised explosive device) case. The police unearthed a conspiracy involving the three individuals who allegedly planted a fake Improvised Explosive Device (IED) to falsely implicate a local resident in Tangmarg.
In its statement, the police while giving details of the incident said, “On July 31, 2025, Tangmarg Police received an input about the presence of an IED at the residence of Manzoor Ahmed Khan of Mahayan Ferozpora. A cordon and search operation was launched and a suspicious package was recovered near the main gate of the house. The bomb disposal squad later confirmed it to be a plastic box resembling an IED but posing no explosive threat.”
“A case (FIR No. 56/2025 under sections 329(3), 324(6), 248 of BNS) was registered at Police Station Tangmarg and investigation was initiated. During the probe, police identified Sajad Ahmed Ganie, a resident of Nowgam Sumbal, as the prime accused. He was arrested after going into hiding,” the police said.
As per the statement, on interrogation, Ganie confessed that he had planted the fake device at the behest of Advocate Rahila Qadri, estranged ex-wife of the house owner, and her present husband Advocate Rayees Ahmed Bhat of Pandithpora Tangmarg. Investigators said the two had conspired with Ganie to frame Manzoor Khan due to a long-standing matrimonial feud.
Police said all three accused have been served notices under the relevant provisions of law and the case will be pursued before the competent court.
