RAJYA SABHA POLLS: PC Chief & MLA Sajad Lone abstains from voting

Reportedly jailed Aam Aadmi Party MLA from Doda, Mehraj Malik, also didn’t cast his vote.

SRINAGAR, OCTOBER 24 (STC): People’s Conference (PC) President and MLA Sajad Gani Lone abstained from Rajya Sabha voting held here today. A local news agency Kashmir Dot Com, quoting sources reported that incarcerated Aam Aadmi Party MLA from Doda, Mehraj Malik, also abstained from casting his vote.

According to reports, the postal ballot of AAP MLA Mehraj Malik, who is currently in detention, has also reached the Returning Officer and will be included in the counting.
The polling formally closed at 4:00 PM, sources said.
Notably, the total strength of the J&K Assembly is 88. With the National Conference receiving support from the Congress, Peoples Democratic Party, CPI(M), and independents, the alliance’s strength has reached 58. If the number is taken into account, then it’s enough for NC to secure all the four seats.
However, analysts say that the BJP can only win a seat in case of cross-voting by MLAs belonging to the INDIA alliance bloc-NC, Congress, PDP, or independents.
