REPUBLIC DAY ADDRESS: Deputy CM takes dig at Pakistan; hails security forces’ sacrifices allowing citizens to live in peace

: Jammu and Kashmir Deputy Chief Minister Surinder Kumar Choudhary in his address on the 77th Republic Day function at Bakshi Stadium here today took a dig at Pakistan for causing “immense suffering” to Jammu and Kashmir and repeatedly attempting to disrupt peace and harm tourism in the region. He paid tributes to the Army, police and other security forces, saying their sacrifices allow citizens to live in peace.
“Pakistan tried to damage Kashmir and its tourism. Our people and security forces will never allow these attempts to succeed,” Choudhary said.
He hailed the morale of the security forces remaining strong despite challenges.
“Jammu and Kashmir had endured difficult phases but had now moved forward on the path of development. The prevailing situation in the Union Territory was peaceful and appealed to tourists from across the country and abroad to visit Kashmir,” The Deputy CM said.
He highlighted the historical importance of January 26, recalling that the Constitution came into force on this day in 1950, establishing India as a sovereign, socialist, secular and democratic republic.
He also referred to the freedom struggle and the resolution for complete independence adopted in 1930.
The Deputy Chief Minister stressed the role of youth in nation-building and expressed concern over drug addiction among sections of young people. He said the government was taking steps to address the issue through various initiatives.
He cited programmes such as Mission Youth, digital empowerment platforms, skill development courses, and entrepreneurship support systems, including online learning tools and e-courses. Choudhary said the government aims to transform Jammu and Kashmir into a skill hub of north India by 2030.
He said efforts were underway to strengthen industrial development, with new industrial estates and factories being set up in several districts. The government, he added, was working on a local employment policy to ensure job opportunities for youth.
On healthcare, Choudhary said the government was expanding medical infrastructure, including new hospitals, medical colleges and specialised facilities across the Union Territory.
He also referred to initiatives in the education sector, including schemes to improve access to schooling in remote areas and encourage girls’ education.
