SRINAGAR, AUGUST 24 (STC)
: Shortage of funds at government treasuries has hit General Provident (GP) Fund withdrawal as 12,062 claims are currently pending across Jammu Kashmir.
This was revealed in an official reply under the Right to Information (RTI) Act. The figures revealed in the RTI reply point to a mounting financial strain within the system, raising concerns about the fiscal planning and fund management of the Finance Department.
The reply states that of these, 7,359 claims have been awaiting clearance for more than three months, even though many cases already have administrative approvals. Officials have attributed the delay not to procedural issues but to a shortage of funds at treasury levels, leaving employees unable to access their savings during urgent financial needs.
The treasury records show that as of March 3, 2025, liabilities worth Rs 3,464.35 crore were pending in 121 treasuries. This includes Rs 1,803.37 crore in GPF bills, Rs 1,049.27 crore in gratuity, Rs 388.22 crore in leave salary, and Rs 223.69 crore in commutation.
