SKIMS pursuing academic excellence, introduces 3-year Super-Specialty DNB Cardiac Anesthesia Programme

: In a significant academic milestone, the Sher-i-Kashmir Institute of Medical Sciences (SKIMS) has introduced a new three-year super-specialty programme – DNB Cardiac Anesthesiology, The programme is equivalent to the DM Cardiac Anesthesia, and is the first such course in Jammu and Kashmir, bringing specialised cardiac thoracic training closer to aspiring clinicians in the region.
Notably, the rigorous three-year super-specialty programme is designed to produce highly trained cardiac thoracic anesthesiologists capable of delivering comprehensive, evidence-based perioperative care across the full spectrum of cardiothoracic and vascular procedures, reads the statement of the Institute issued to media.
The statement further reads that the trainees will receive hands-on exposure in cardiothoracic operating theatres; cardiac ICUs and high-dependency units; advanced cardiac catheterisation labs; interventional cardiology suites and non-operating room cardiac procedures.
The curriculum focuses on building expertise in hemodynamic management, transesophageal echocardiography (TEE), perioperative cardiac optimization, mechanical circulatory support, and intensive postoperative care—competencies central to modern cardiac anesthesia practice.
On this occasion, Director SKIMS and Ex-Officio Secretary to the Government, Professor Mohammad Ashraf Ganie, extended heartfelt congratulations to the SKIMS University.He commended the collective determination in bringing this vital super-specialty to J&K, emphasizing that it will significantly enhance subspecialty cardiac care in the region.

support. Professor Ajaz A. Malik, Head of the SKIMS Accreditation Centre, and his team for ensuring meticulous compliance with national accreditation standards.
Professor Showkat A. Guroo, Associate Dean and Head, Department of Anaesthesiology, for his visionary leadership in advancing departmental academic initiatives & Dr. Talib Khan, Additional Professor and Senior Consultant, Division of Cardiovascular and Thoracic Anesthesiology for his efforts.
The launch of this programme marks a transformative advancement for medical education and specialised cardiac thoracic services in Jammu & Kashmir.
