STC EXCLUSIVE: Kashmiri social reformer Firdous Baba appointed first Muslim trustee of Hindu temple

SRINAGAR, June 02 (STC): In a first, a Muslim, that too from Kashmir, Firdous Baba, has been appointed as trustee of a Hindu temple in India. According to reliable sources privy to the development, Firdous Baba, who is chief of Kashmir Sewa Sangh, has been appointed as one of the trustees of the Kashmir branch of the Sai Mandir Sansthan to be established soon. The initiative aims to playing pivotal role in making the socio-economic sectors including education, healthcare, etc vibrant in the valley. It also aims to peddle women empowerment through various economic programmes specailly tailored for them.
Reports reveal that inspired by the spirit of devotion, service, and spirituality, the Sai Mandir Sansthan, Surat, has now expanded its service activities to Jammu and Kashmir as well. The chief acharya of the organisation, Dr. Shyam Suresa, has informed that this expansion aims to spread the message of Sai Baba to this sacred part of North India.
The Sai Mandir Sansthan, located opposite Surat Airport, first started its services in Navsari. Continuing this endeavor, the organization has now taken a strong step towards spreading the message of service and devotion to every corner of the country, including the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir, says the source.
The source further disclosed that besides Firdous Baba, chief of the Kashmir Sewa Sangh, the Sai Baba Sansthan has additionally announced Geeta Shroff, a well-known social reformer from Gujarat and UCC member, another trustee of the Kashmir branch of the Sai Baba temple.
Dr. Shyam Suresa while commenting on the development said, “Sai Mandir Sansthan, which started from Surat, is now expanding its services at the national level. The objective is to establish social harmony, spiritual awareness, and selfless service in society based on the feeling of “Sabka Malik Ek” (God is One). Through this effort in Jammu and Kashmir, the local community will be provided with both spiritual energy and humanitarian aid. The main services of the organization include food service, clothing service, water service, educational assistance, and medical care.”
INNOVATIVE CONCEPT OF DISPLAYING BROTHERHOOD
After the tragic attack in Pahalgam, which affected many lives, a new chapter of unity and harmony is being scripted. A unique temple, symbolizing humanity, is being built in Kashmir. This project will include a Sai Temple, sending a message of unity among different religions.
This initiative is starting from Gujarat and is believed as a strong effort by its organisers to connect the entire country through the means of achieving brotherhood. This project will not only promote religious harmony but also make significant contributions to the social and educational sectors. Additionally, it will add a new chapter in the history of Kashmir, moving towards unity and development; leaving behind violence and division.
The objective to strengthen mutual brotherhood. As per the concept, this complex will reflect the cultural and religious diversity of Kashmir, where people of all faiths can participate in prayers and social activities together.
Notably, this initiative is going to begin with the construction of Sai Temple in Kashmir. The Kashmir Seva Sangh and Gujarat’s Apmrutyu Nivaran Sahay Sanstha are jointly realizing this initiative. It has also been learnt that Kashmir University is also supporting this endeavor.
