: Former Chief Minister and PDP President Mehbooba Mufti has expressed serious concern over what she described as the disappearance of more than three lakh fifty-five thousand Waqf properties from the national record after the introduction of the UMEED database, reports a cross section of media.
Taking to X platform, she said the updated data shows large gaps in entries across states, including a loss of seven thousand two hundred forty Waqf properties in Jammu and Kashmir.
Mehbooba said the discrepancies raise troubling questions about transparency and the overall protection of Waqf assets. She noted that several states have shown steep reductions in their recorded Waqf properties, with some witnessing losses in tens of thousands of entries. Her post called the trend alarming for the Muslim community which, according to her, has already been facing violence, demolitions and disenfranchisement.
She said the erosion of Waqf land feels like another blow to the community and asked where such a process would ultimately lead. The data shared by her shows a significant decline from eight lakh seventy two thousand three hundred fifty two recorded properties in December 2024 to five lakh seventeen thousand forty entries in December 2025 across the country.
