SRINAGAR, OCTOBER 28 (STC)
: The bill seeking regularisation of services of employees working on a contractual basis, including casual labourers and daily wagers, has been withdrawn from the Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly. However, Chief Minister Omar Abdullah informed the House that the government has constituted a committee headed by the Chief Secretary to look into the regularisation of daily wagers and contractual employees.
He was replying to a bill moved by NC MLA Mir Saifullah seeking regularisation of services of employees working on a contractual basis, including casual labourers and daily wagers.
“We formed a committee headed by the Chief Secretary in the last session. They are collecting details about the number of daily wagers and casual labourers and also the financial implications of their regularisation. We should allow the Chief Secretary-led committee to do their job,” Omar said urging Mir Saifullah to withdraw the bill.
Even as Mir Saifullah expressed concern that the Chief Secretary’s committee was taking too long and might not reach a concrete solution, he eventually withdrew the bill.
