NEW DELHI, DECEMBER 16 (STC)
: Press Club of Kashmir (PCK) representative, Danish Reshi, met the newly elected first woman President of the Press Club of India, Sangeeta Barooah Pisharoty, at the press club here today.
In a statement issued to the media, the PCK spokesperson said the representative apprised the elected president of PCI, Barooah, of the difficulties currently faced by the press club of Kashmir following the denial of the Omar Abdullah-led government for the restoration of the press club of Kashmir premises or an alternate place to run the club smoothly.
The PCI President Sangeeta assured the representative to work together for the restoration of the building for the Kashmir press club at Polo view or another alternate place for housing the club, so that it operates smoothly, the PCK statement said.
As stated by the spokesperson, the Press Club of Kashmir has been facing an unprecedented crisis due to the absence
of a physical space to function as a professional and democratic institution. The earlier premises at Polo View, Srinagar, were taken over by the government in 2022 following the expiry of the Kashmir Press Club’s registration in the aftermath of the abrogation of Articles 370 and 35A.
The Press Club of Kashmir hopes that the Press Club of India and the wider journalist fraternity across the country will collectively urge CM Omar Abdullah to allot an alternative space to the Press Club of Kashmir in lieu of the earlier premises, so that journalists in Kashmir can continue to work in a secure, dignified, and institutional environment.
Mohammad Saleem Pandit, Patron/President, Press Club of Kashmir, sincerely hopes that this new leadership at the Press Club of India will bring meaningful and positive changes, particularly for journalists working in Kashmir—changes that were long denied under the political leadership of Omar Abdullah.

The Press Club of Kashmir looks forward to greater engagement, support, and cooperation with the Press Club of India and reaffirms its commitment to democratic values, press freedom, and free expression in the region, reads the PCK statement.
