Police releases public notice seeking help in probing alleged assassination bid on Dr. Farooq at marriage function in Jammu

JAMMU, MARCH 18 (STC): The Jammu and Kashmir Police have released a public notice issued by the Range Headquarters Jammu–Samba–Kathua, Deputy Inspector General (DIG) Shiv Kumar Sharma appealing to guests present at the function and others having any digital evidence or information related to the incident of alleged assassination bid on former chief minister Dr. Farooq Abdullah to share it with the investigating agency.
The police has sought information, video recordings and photographs from people who attended a marriage function where the incident took place.
Notably, police have constituted a Special Investigation Team (SIT) to probe the firing incident that took place at a wedding function in the Greater Kailash area here on March 11.
Police Station Gangyal has registered an FIR in connection with the case.
Sharma in the notice said public cooperation would assist the SIT in collecting evidence and ensuring a transparent investigation. He also shared contact numbers for providing information.
Jammu Zone Inspector General of Police Bhim Sen Tuti ordered the formation of the SIT under the supervision of the DIG of Jammu–Samba–Kathua Range, citing the seriousness of the case.
Abdullah, a former chief minister, escaped unhurt when a gunman allegedly opened fire from behind while he was leaving the function, officials said.
The accused, identified as Kamal Singh (63), was overpowered and arrested on the spot. A revolver used in the incident was recovered from his possession.
