JAMMU, MARCH 27 (STC)
: Condemning the ongoing war against Iran, Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah called it “illegal and unlawful,” and urged Prime Minister Narendra Modi to use diplomatic channels to help end the conflict.
“No one could justify the war or the loss of innocent lives, including children,” he said in his speech in the Assembly today. He also expressed grief over the reported killing of Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei and others, stating that such developments could not be supported by anyone.
He said the purpose of the war remained unclear, adding that even the leadership of the United States appeared uncertain about its objectives. Abdullah referred to changing statements from the US President on issues ranging from regime change to economic concerns.
Highlighting the local impact, he said residents of Jammu and Kashmir were directly affected as several people from the region were stranded in Iran.
Abdullah said while the Assembly could not stop the war, India’s diplomatic ties with countries such as the United States and Israel could be leveraged to push for de-escalation.
He urged the Prime Minister to use his “office and personal relations” to help end the conflict at the earliest, saying it would serve the cause of humanity.
