Apni Party chief hits at Mehbooba Mufti for ‘anti-city’ policy; welcomes Rajbagh flyover approval

SRINAGAR, MARCH 31 (STC): Former minister and Apni Party President Syed Muhammad Altaf Bukhari while slamming PDP president Mehbooba Mufti for anti-Srinagar city policy, has welcomed the government’s approval of the flyover connecting Rajbagh to Sangarmal in Srinagar.
He called it a “long-awaited and much-needed” step to ease mounting traffic congestion.
The Apni Party President blamed Mehbooba Mufti fir mishandling the project during her chief ministership. “Exhibiting her typical Nadirshahi behaviour, she ignored expert advice and converted the proposed motorable bridge into a footbridge, despite its original design and laid foundation for vehicles,” he said.
He cited other “foolish” decisions under her rule that hurt Srinagar, including shifting the Batamaloo General Bus Stand to Parimpora—devastating the area’s economy and pushing traders, transporters, and residents into financial distress—and banning stone mining in Athwajan and Pantha Chowk, which robbed hundreds of labour families of livelihoods.
“These examples highlight the poor judgment and disregard for public welfare that marked Mehbooba Mufti’s time in power,” Bukhari asserted. Addressing her directly, he added: “The damage you caused to Srinagar is unforgettable. Unelected party representatives may have fueled your anti-city sentiments, but you left no stone unturned to undermine its interests. People will neither forget nor forgive, and history will judge.”
