GCC pitches for shifting detainees from jails outside J&K to local jails

SRINAGAR, MAY 31 (STC): The Group of Concerned Citizens, J&K ( GCC ) has written to the Home Department( Government of J&K) to consider shifting of detainees from jails outside J&K to jails within J&K on humanitarian grounds. In a statement, the GCC states the family members and relatives of the detainees have to face physical and mental trauma in travelling to places outside J&K to meet their kith and kin lodged in jails there.
The Group has also appealed for review of detention of those PSA detainees who have spent long years in jail, are old and suffering from various illnesses. It hoped that LG’s administration will consider the two demands favourably to facilitate the families and the detainees.
