J&K policeman killed in terrorist attack in Anantnag’s Lal Chowk area; LG Manoj Sinha and CM Omar Abdullah pay tribute to slain policeman

SRINAGAR, JULY 22 (STC): A Jammu and Kashmir policeman was killed in a terrorist attack in Anantnag’s Lal Chowk area.
According to a senior police official, security forces immediately cordoned off the area following the attack, and a search operation was conducted to track down the terrorists.
Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha and Chief Minister Omar Abdullah paid tribute to the slain policeman and assured that those responsible would be brought to justice.
According to the reports, the Jammu and Kashmir Police constable Ashiq Hussain was seriously injured in the terrorist attack. He was immediately shifted to a nearby hospital, but succumbed to his injuries.
Meanwhile, after the incident, Director General of Police Nalin Prabhat and Special Director General of Police SJM Gilani visited Lal Chowk area of Anantnag district, where they took a detailed review of the security situation after the recent terrorist attack. Senior police officers were also present during the visit. He inspected the ground situation and received a detailed briefing from the officers leading the counter-terrorism operation regarding the progress of the operation, movement of terrorists, security challenges and future strategy.
DGP Nalin Prabhat reviewed the preparedness of the police and other security forces deployed at the spot, inspected the security arrangements and issued necessary instructions for the effective execution of the operation. He directed the forces to continue operations under a coordinated strategy to arrest or eliminate the terrorists and ensure the safety of lives and property of the citizens at all costs.
According to sources, security has been tightened in the entire area after the terrorist attack. Police, army and other security agencies have jointly launched a massive search operation to track down the terrorists involved in the attack and arrest or kill them. The authorities have deployed additional personnel at sensitive locations while the surveillance system has been made more effective in Lal Chowk and its adjoining areas. Police officials say that forces are using all available resources to track down the terrorists and the situation is being constantly monitored.
The public has also been appealed not to pay heed to rumors and immediately report any suspicious activity to the nearest police or security agencies.
