Amarnath Yatra: ‘Chhadi Mubarak’ taken to Shankaracharya Temple in Srinagar

SRINAGAR, AUGUST 12 (STC): In connection with Amarnath Yatra 2026, the ‘Chhadi Mubarak’, the stick of Lord Shiva, was taken to the historic Shankaracharya Temple in Srinagar as per the ancient tradition on the occasion of Hariyali Amavasya, where special pujas and prayers were offered.

According to a statement issued by Dashnami Akhara, which is the permanent abode of the ‘Chhadi Mubarak’, said that under the leadership of Mahant Deependra Giri Ji, the ‘Chhadi Mubarak’ was taken to the historic Shankaracharya Temple located on Gopadri Hill in Srinagar, where religious rituals were performed as per ancient traditions on the occasion of Hariyali Amavasya.
On this occasion, collective prayers were also offered for peace, prosperity and development in Jammu and Kashmir and the entire country.
Talking to reporters, Mahant Deependra Giri said that according to historians, this temple located on the top of the hill was originally built by Raja Sandiman. He said that in the past this temple was known as ‘Jeyashteshwar’ or ‘Jyotishwar’ temple, however after the arrival of Adi Guru Shankaracharya Ji, this temple became known as ‘Shri Shankaracharya Mandir’.
Mahant Deependra Giri said that the ‘chhd Mubarak’ will be taken to the Sharika Bhavani Temple located in Hari Parbat Fort in Srinagar on Thursday, August 13, where the presence of the Goddess will be offered. The traditional religious pilgrimage of the ‘chhd Mubarak’ to the holy cave will continue as per the scheduled and the Amarnath Yatra will end on August 28.
