JKPCC Chief Tariq Karra against increase in electricity tariffs; demands its withdrawal

SRINAGAR, AUGUST 25 (STC): Strongly opposing the recent increase in electricity tariffs by the Jammu and Kashmir government, Jammu Kashmir Pradesh Congress Committee (JKPCC) President Tariq Hameed Karra has termed it as an additional and unjustified burden on the consumers.
While talking to media persons in Srinagar, the JKPCC Chief said that this decision has been taken at a time when households are already facing rising inflation and economic pressure. He said the people of Jammu and Kashmir were expecting reduction and relief in electricity bills from the government, but on the contrary, the tariffs were increased.
According to him, every extra rupee in the electricity bill for a common household affects the family budget. He demanded that the government urgently review and roll back the increase in electricity tariffs and take steps to reduce the burden of electricity on domestic consumers, especially the economically weaker sections. He said that electricity is not a luxury but a basic and necessary facility.
“The people of Jammu and Kashmir should get affordable and reliable electricity, and not face continuously increasing bills,”Karra said and urged the government to review the decision to increase the tariff in the larger public interest and restore relief for consumers.
He said that essential facilities should not be allowed to continue to become expensive for common households.
