Copernicus declares August 2026 hottest month in human history

SRINAGAR, SEPTEMBER 10 (STC): European Meteorological Organization has claimed that August 2026 was the hottest month recorded in human history. According to the European meteorological agency Copernicus Climate Change Service (CCCS), the global average air temperature in August was the highest recorded for any month in human history. The average temperature during August was 16.96 degrees Celsius, which was 0.85 degrees Celsius higher than the average temperature recorded between 1991 and 2020.
A major reason for August becoming the hottest month was the increase in sea temperatures, which reached record levels. In fact, the months of June to August have been declared the hottest summer days in history. According to the CCCS report, August was the hottest month due to the increase in temperatures caused by humans and the increase in the intensity of El Niño. It should be noted that El Niño is a weather phenomenon that results in a large part of the water in the Pacific Ocean becoming much warmer than usual and also increases the overall temperature of the Earth. In comparison, the temperature of the Pacific Ocean decreases during La Niña.
According to the CCCS, the fact that August temperatures surpassed July is also extraordinary. CCCS experts said that we are witnessing catastrophic climate impacts around the world and people everywhere are affected by it. They said that the intensity of the weather is continuously increasing and this intensity will continue on a long-term basis.
