SRINAGAR, SEPTEMBER 18 (STC): Former Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister and National Conference President Dr. Farooq Abdullah said that Jammu was achieving a prominent position in terms of construction and development, however, after the people of Jammu voted for the BJP, the pace of development was affected. He said that instead of political division on religious grounds, priority should have been given to public issues, development and prosperity, but unfortunately religious sentiments were given more importance politically.
He said that the impact of BJP’s policies was not limited to Kashmir alone but the people of Jammu were also facing its effects in various sectors.
Government job opportunities for the deserving youth of Jammu and Kashmir have been opened to candidates from all over the country. Non-state people will come later to buy lands in the valley but first they will deprive the people of Jammu of their lands,” Dr. Farooq Abdullah said.
He further stated that the National Conference has always urged the people of Jammu to avoid division on religious grounds and use their votes for public interest, development and economic prosperity, however, this appeal did not get the desired response.
He said that the BJP had closed the Darbar Move chain, which was the backbone of the economy of Jammu, but the Omar Abdullah-led National Conference government, as soon as it assumed power, revived it, which has been an important tradition in terms of administrative and economic ties between Jammu and Kashmir.
He expressed these views while interacting with a delegation of party office bearers and workers from Samba district of Jammu province.
The delegation was led by senior party leader Rajesh Sugotra.
On this occasion, a detailed discussion was held regarding party affairs, organizational activities and the party’s ground-level activities in various areas. The office bearers and workers in the delegation apprised Dr. Farooq Abdullah of the problems and difficulties faced by the people of their respective areas and also provided information about the party’s programs and organizational activities.
Dr. Farooq said the historic decision of agricultural reforms by Sher-i-Kashmir Sheikh Muhammad Abdullah proved to be a revolutionary milestone in the history of Jammu and Kashmir. “With these reforms, a large number of poor and working people belonging to Jammu and Ladakh also got land ownership rights overnight compared to Kashmir, which brought fundamental and revolutionary changes in their lives and instilled a sense of self-confidence and self-reliance among the people,” he said.
Dr. Farooq said that it was due to the historic and revolutionary steps of the National Conference that the living standards of the impoverished people of Jammu and Kashmir improved and the dream of providing medical facilities along with the educational revolution was also realized.
