BJP members protest during question time, National Conference and Congress demand restoration of statehood

SRINAGAR, SEPTEMBER 20 (STC): The autumn session of the Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly began on Monday with heavy ruckus, where Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) members protested over the demands of increase in electricity rates, power supply and regularity of daily wage earners and National Health Mission employees.
Meanwhile, National Conference (NC) members raised slogans demanding restoration of statehood to Jammu and Kashmir, disrupting the proceedings of the House.
Soon after the condolence remarks in the House on Monday, BJP members stood up from their seats and started raising slogans demanding justice for daily wage earners and NHM employees. BJP members also protested against the government over the issue of power supply and increase in electricity tariffs. The protesting members raised slogans like “Jo Sarkar na de saake Bijli pani, wo Sarkar nakaikasi”, “Insaf karo daily wage earners ke saath” and “Insaf karo NHM employees ke saath”.
Despite the protests, the ministers continued to answer questions asked by other members. BJP members were holding placards in their hands and also raised slogans of “Bharat Mata ki Jai” and “Vande Mataram”.
Meanwhile, Congress members Irfan Hafeez Lone and Iftikhar Ahmed responded to the protest of BJP members. tried to give a speech, but due to the intense noise, his speech could not be heard clearly.
Later, as soon as Communist Party of India (Marxist) leader Muhammad Yusuf Tarigami started speaking to respond to the protest of BJP members, several BJP members reached the middle of the House, that is, the well, and started shouting slogans against the government.
After this, National Conference members also joined the protest and started shouting slogans demanding restoration of statehood to Jammu and Kashmir. In view of the situation, Assembly Speaker Abdul Rahim Rather appealed to the protesting members several times to return to their seats and also warned of action.
Addressing the protesting members, the Speaker asked them to return to their seats, however, the BJP members remained in the well of the House and continued shouting slogans.
Meanwhile, National Conference member Nazir Gurezi accused the BJP leadership of wasting the time of the House and said that if they want to protest, they should protest in Delhi. He addressed the Speaker and said that the BJP members of the House They are wasting time. On the other hand, Deputy Chief Minister Surendra Chaudhary alleged that the BJP does not want to give the government a chance to work to solve the problems faced by the people of Jammu and Kashmir. He said that if the BJP is really serious about the problems of the people of Jammu and Kashmir, then it should listen to the government’s answers, because the government is ready to respond to every issue.
Amidst the intense uproar, Minister for Rural Development Javed Dar also introduced a bill in the House to amend the Cooperative Act. However, the normal proceedings were affected due to continuous noise and protests in the House. Later, Speaker Abdul Rahim Rather adjourned the Assembly proceedings for the day.
