SRINAGAR, OCTOBER 07 (STC): The School Education Department has clarified that there is no immediate plan to change the current timings of schools at present.
Director Education Kashmir Naseer Ahmed Wani has said that there is no immediate plan that the current timings have been fixed keeping in mind the academic calendar and weather conditions and students and teaching staff will have to adapt themselves to the changing weather.
He said that it is true that parents are demanding change in school timings in the current month as the cold has increased in the morning, however, the department also has to keep in mind the academic calendar and other issues. He said that this year the department has already changed the school timings to 9 am, whereas in the past, the timings were changed two to three times during the summer and finally the schools opened at 8:30 am.
The Director of Education said that the current timings are suitable for both parents and students. He admitted that the morning hours have started feeling cold during the last few days, however, the weather will change further in the coming days and people will have to adapt themselves according to the weather conditions.
He said that the issue of revision in school timings is also linked to the annual Darbar Move schedule and it is likely that the school timings will be changed in November. He said that if schools are started at 9:30 am, there may be traffic problems, especially in Srinagar. He said that the issue related to school timings and traffic pressure will also be discussed with the SSP Traffic Srinagar so that appropriate arrangements can be made.
